My Favorite Books About Grandparents

By Eugenia Vela

Have you ever noticed all these goofy holidays that keep popping up? Any given day, it could be National Bubble Wrap Appreciation or National Punctuation Day. Listen, both of those things are important, but is it necessary to have a day dedicated to them around the nation?! One major holiday that I’ve come to love, though, is Grandparent’s Day! Now, I know it’s behind us, but grandparents are always worth celebrating – plus, with fall and winter holidays around the corner, it’s the perfect time to spread the grandparent love with your littles. And let me tell ya, there’s quite a few beautiful books that honor these special people in your life, and I’m going to be sharing some of my personal favorites.

Nisolo Essentials Collection

livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-austin-texas-fashion-lifestyle-blogger-nisolo-james-oxford-fall-outfit-idea-madewell-kent-cardigan-12livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-austin-texas-fashion-lifestyle-blogger-nisolo-james-oxford-fall-outfit-idea-madewell-kent-cardigan-5I think fall is my favorite season to dress for. Rich earth tones, a great pair of denim, cozy layers and the prettiest tote and oxfords combo…I feel my best in outfits like this one! Y’all know I’m a sucker for that yummy saddle, tan, caramel color – it’s warm and relaxed, making it easy to pair with just about anything hanging in my closet. Plus, it wears so well over time…making it an easy wardrobe staple for years to come. I’ve worn Nisolo shoes for over a year now (remember this post? Gah, still loving those shoes, too!) and I am so excited to share another favorite, the James Oxford, from their new Essentials Collection. It’s a lower priced collection of beautiful shoes created without cutting into the fair trade wages their producers earn. It’s a win/win for everyone, your feet included.

Best Ice Cream Shops In Austin

livvyland-blog-austin-texas-lifestyle-blogger-best-ice-cream-shopsBy Jessica Lee

I worked at an ice cream shop in high school, so just walking into one sends a wave of nostalgia through me. My days were spent making waffle cones, decorating ice cream cakes and scooping hundreds of cones. It wasn’t a bad gig.

Honestly, I don’t have that much of a sweet tooth, but when it comes to ice cream, my fiance, Alex, claims to be an expert. No matter how full he is, he always finds room for a cone. So when I suggested we do some “research” for this post, he didn’t hesitate to say yes. And I don’t blame him! There are a bunch of great spots here in town to grab a scoop…

What’s Your Favorite Fall Activity?

livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-canoe-lady-bird-lake-austin-texas-lifestyle-fashion-blogger-backcountry-patagonia-tunic-yeti-rambler-2 livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-canoe-lady-bird-lake-austin-texas-lifestyle-fashion-blogger-backcountry-seychelles-deep-sea-ankle-booties-2Anyone else SO ready for fall? Cooler, crisp weather, hot coffee, cozy sweaters paired with ankle booties…and of course, enjoying some time outdoors soaking up the magical new season! We’re still in triple digits in Austin (omg!), but when Backcountry asked me to share a few of my favorite pieces for fall, I couldn’t help but jump on this one. For one, TONS of adorable long sweaters to layer up and wear over leggings with booties (…cute and SO comfy!), and two, loads of outdoor gear to pack for a day spent outside. Over the weekend I grabbed my sister, made us a couple of oat milk lattes for the road, rented a canoe down at Lady Bird Lake and took my new fall goodies for a spin…and it was the best day!

Living Room Plans With Interior Define

There’s just something about a new season of life that makes you want to change things up. Now that we have Jude, I see the functionality of our house differently. Can our sofa withstand a couple of kiddos? Is that rug soft enough for crawling? Will our blinds survive Watson freaking out when the postman rings the doorbell? (Spoiler: we’re on our third set of blinds…). I’ve loved our current living room setup, but when I dream up living room furniture that will stick around as our family continues to grow, a sectional sofa and more durable chairs come to mind. Within the last 10 months, we added a 95lb dog and baby to our family…which means big changes in this small house! Having beautiful furniture that’s created with pets and kids in mind is exactly what we need…

No Baby Unhugged

livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-austin-texas-costco-huggies-diapers-2 livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-austin-texas-costco-huggies-diapers-4Since becoming a mom, there is nothing more important to me than spending quality time with my baby. I juggle being a full time mama and a full time blogger – so I will take every free moment I get to soak up cuddles, hugs and kisses with my sweet boy. With so much going on in my brain at all times (“don’t forget to email that brand back!” or “we’re almost out of diaper wipes” or “oops, I forgot to pump before his next meal!”), checking things off my to-do list so that I can be totally present with Jude is top priority these days.

Must-Have Overalls

One thing I’ve realized over the years about my style: I. Love. Overalls. They’re easy to throw on, they’ve got that relaxed vibe and when they fit just right, you feel like a million bucks in them. When I saw this pair while clicking through the New Arrivals tab at ModCloth, I knew I had to give them a try. They showed up on my doorstep a few days later and as I slipped myself into them, I looked in the mirror and did a happy dance. I talk a lot about postpartum body image here and on my Instagram feed, and when you order something that just fits in all the right places, it’s totally worth that squeal of happiness and big cheesy grin. I couldn’t wait to share these with y’all…!

The Cutest Under $30 Maxi Dress

livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-mustard-canary-yellow-maxi-dress-love-sadie-summer-date-night-outfit-5 livvyland-blog-olivia-watson-mustard-canary-yellow-maxi-dress-love-sadie-summer-date-night-outfit-4 If fall in your city means 95 degree temperatures, then I am right there with you! As a blogger, I am guilty of smiling as I pose in cozy cardigans and fleece joggers…when in reality I am dying a slow and painful death melting in triple digits and daydreaming of nothing more than an ice cold margarita. Now if that mental image doesn’t scream “fall!” then I don’t know what does haha! 😉 In Austin, fall can mean a tank top and shorts or flowy dress…this city sort of skips fall and goes straight to winter (…and our winter could technically be another city’s fall given that we rarely hit below 50 degrees…). What I’m trying to say is – regardless of the season, you can dress in whatever you’re loving, while keeping the latest seasonal trends in mind. Bohemian, pretty prairie style is something we’ll be seeing a lot of this fall, and this mustard yellow maxi dress with a ruffle bottom totally fits the trend and is a staple you can wear now and into the next few months. The best part? This $27 maxi dress comes in three colors and could easily be styled for cooler weather weather…simply add a leather or denim jacket and some ankle booties or mules!

Everyday Athleisure

Ohh a good athleisure outfit…it serves two purposes: one is that perhaps simply wearing workout gear will encourage a stop at the gym throughout the day (…perhaps being the key word, ha!) and two, you feel pretty and put together, but in reality you’re extremely comfortable and get to enjoy the best of both worlds. I know I talk about mom style all the time these days…but I’ve never worn workout gear more in my life than since becoming a mama. I’m bending, I’m snapping (literally, I am snapping constantly…Jude loves when you sing and make a beat for him haha), I’m on the go and love nothing more than to feel like a fully charged human. And sometimes looking like a fully charged human is just as good as feeling like one these days, ha! Which is where I turn to my friends over at Trunk Club – my stylist, Maddie, created an amazing Trunk this month and filled it with the cool, versatile athleisure pieces to take you from a workout to a quick coffee run and beyond. I know y’all hear me talk about Trunk Club all the time, and it’s because this service is total game changer…especially for busy moms like me!

Best Cheap Eats In Austin

livvyland-blog-austin-texas-city-guide-best-cheap-budget-restaurants-eatsBy Jessica Lee

I’ve been traveling a lot these past few months, and it feels so good to be back in Austin with no big travel plans in sight. Sometimes it’s just so nice to be home. I’m looking forward to getting back into the routine of things: cooking at home, going for morning runs, and enjoying these long summer days.

Lately, I’ve been trying to save some money (weddings are expensive!), so when I do eat out, I’ve been sticking to spots that don’t break the bank. Luckily, Austin has a ton of really amazing, inexpensive options. From a hearty bowl of pho to the best breakfast tacos in town, here are my favorite cheap eats in the Texas capitol…
