Texture Mix

If you’ve been following me for a while, you may have noticed that I have a slight obsession with all things camel, tan and cognac. When I look at my shoe shelf, it’s 90% tan and 10% black and olive – clearly, I’ve got a thing for earth tones and neutrals. I feel like browns are such approachable hues and soften a wardrobe (I love black but sometimes feel like it comes across as too harsh and not feel quite as “me”), while also making it easier to mix and match for years to come.
Recently I’ve been stepping outside my comfort zone when it comes to styling and I love it. Wearing a summer handbag with a corduroy skirt (…a very wintery texture) and cozy sweater may not have been something I’d thought to do last year (…or perhaps that I thought was style faux pas?)…but last week I tried it on in the mirror, liked it and said, done! I’m working on dressing for me and wearing what I feel good in, regardless of what others may think or what’s seasonally acceptable in the fashion world…and I gotta say, it feels good!

Anyone else a fan of re-wearing items in your wardrobe over and over? (…and over…and over…umm me!). I was raised to treat my clothing with kindness so that it lasts a long time – being the baby of five kiddos meant we all went back to school shopping once throughout the year and that those clothes needed to last. I am thankful to my parents for teaching me to respect and care for my things…it makes me appreciate the wardrobe staples I purchase, and also encourages me to use the same piece and style it a ton of different ways.
The color combination that always has me swooning: camel (#1), black and white (…preferably in striped form…). I am a firm believer that investing in timeless neutrals is always a great idea – and each of these pieces can be styled in various ways and worn for years to come! Also – did you notice I changed my hair color? Was feeling the itch for a big change, but am reaaaaally trying to grow it out again (…that struggle is real!). I am loving the darker color – excited to let the sun work it’s magic and bring out some honey highlights while I visit Australia next week, too. Going for the “sunkissed brunette” look after a few washes and some quality time at the beach!

Hey there! How was your weekend? I spent mine bundled up on the sofa binge watching This Is Us (…and sobbing, a LOT obviously, ha! This show hits ya right in the feels…it’s soooo good!). True story: this is the first time I have ever binge watched a TV series when I am not sick and bed ridden…and it feels AMAZING. Clearly I have been living under a rock and missing out on a seriously fabulous form of r&r. Anyone else watching This Is Us? I’m excited for season 3 to start this week…I will definitely be watching!
Hello friends! I don’t know about you, but I am feeling so revived as we to get a fresh start to 2018. Lots of new goals (…finish decorating the house, travel, read a new book each month) but also lots of lifestyle changes I am excited to add to the mix. For instance, Blake and I got gym memberships (we are the New Years cliché haha, buuut hey, the first step is actually getting the membership, so we’re onto something! 😉 ) and I’ve incorporated a simple step to my daily skincare routine that will not only help my skin in the long run, but protects it daily now!

Hello there! Been a while since my last blog entry…I haven’t taken an actual vacation from blog-land in YEARS! After an insane holiday season, my body and mind needed a b-r-e-a-k and so I finally listened. Instead of stressing about Instagram posts or blog content, I bought two books (…and actually started reading them, ha), went on leisurely coffee dates with friends and soaked up time in our backyard playing fetch with Watson (which is surprisingly therapeutic haha). It may not sound terribly exciting, but man was it exactly what I needed to recharge and feel like myself again. I was basically a walking zombie by December 23rd (my last deadline of 2017)…thus, excuse my radio silence over the last week, but it was some much needed time off! All that said, I hope you got to enjoy some quality rest & relaxation time of your own, too. I’m so glad you stopped by LL and I am excited about all the fabulous content headed this way…feeling ready for what 2018 has in store!
Hello there! How’s your week going? I’ve been a busy bee around here finishing up my last projects of 2017. I’ve got one final collaboration in the works and am excited to share that before the new year! It’s so crazy how quickly 2017 flew by…and I don’t know about you, but I sure am looking forward to a fresh start in 2018. Always love that “new beginnings” feeling.
The color combo that’s always in style: black & white. In 2017 one of my small wardrobe goals was to incorporate more black pieces into my outfits…and I am excited to say that by late December I finally feel comfortable in (and actually gravitate towards) it when getting dressed these days! (…Which is a big deal considering my serious obsession with tan everything!).
Ohh this wrap dress with a leather jacket – I kind of died a bit when I put the two together, it is truly a showstopper combination! As we inch closer to the holidays, I’m excited to have my friends back in Austin…which means lots of dinners, cocktail hours around town (…and lots of excuses to rock some adorable outfits! 😉 ).
Come on in and cozy up! The countdown to Christmas is just days away (…not going to worry about that lengthy holiday shopping list I still have to get to…haha ah!), and what’s more relaxing than throwing on some ultra soft pajamas, plush slippers and sipping coffee while surrounded by holiday decor with some Christmas tunes in the background? Sounds like my kinda r&r!
