Weekly Chat: What Did You Want To Be When You Grew Up?

livvyland-glamour-magazine-vintage-cover-magazine-writer-editor
When I was 10-years-old, my grand life plan was to be a professional ballerina AND an OBGYN…(because clearly those two careers goes hand-in-hand). I’ve always loved kids (hence the helping birth babies thing…I just failed to understand what that actually entailed) and who doesn’t watch ballerinas in awe and adoration? Over time, I learned I had a passion for writing and said so long to my previous life plans. I was about 13 when I changed my mind and was stuck on the idea of becoming a fashion magazine writer.read more

What To Wear To A Spring Wedding

Hey gals! I’m currently en route to Palm Beach, Florida for a fun collaboration with the Lilly Pulitzer team – actually writing this from the airplane! I grabbed my mom and we’re ready for a couple days of r&r and hopefully a few margaritas by the pool. I am in desperate need of a relaxing getaway right about now! You can follow the fun over on my Instagram feed (trust me, their spring/summer collections are SO cute!!). Can’t wait to share more as we get settled in and hit the beach!

If you’ve followed me for a while, you may have noticed that I wear a lot of J.O.A. clothing (this brand is sold at Nordstrom and Shopbop, which is where I discovered it!). There’s a reason I keep coming back for more of their beautiful products, and when I saw this adorable ruffled maxi dress, I knew right away I needed to share it with y’all! It would SO perfect worn to a spring (…or summer!) wedding.

Weekly Chat: 3 Steps To Build Your Brand

good-things-take-time-4A question I receive often from readers and new bloggers is: how do you build your brand? It’s a question that comes with a loaded response (…and time, of course), but I feel there are a few key components that are the building blocks to creating a brand that speaks to a sense of style, written voice, and photo aesthetic that is authentic to you.

Our Honeymoon To Greece

Aaaand months later (we visited in late September/early October), I am finally sharing the ins and outs of our honeymoon to Athens and Santorini, Greece! Not going to lie, editing these images brought back all the “feels” and I definitely called Blake over to my office area more than once to look at photos and reminisce with me. I still stand by that it was my favorite vacation ever…for one, Santorini was such a relaxing and romantic place – and Athens was so rich with incredible history that I was pretty much in awe for three days straight…and two, given that Blake and I are both workaholics, it was seriously SO incredible to disconnect and just be present and explore with each other for 12 days straight. We make a great team and he’s my very favorite travel partner! (…Our shared love for drinking coffee and beer in new places = a match made in heaven, ha!). From the scenery to the Greek food (omg heaven!), to spending days on end with my darling, it was pure magic and a trip I’ll forever fondly remember.

As folks are planning their spring/summer getaways, I’ve had a ton of emails and messages from LL readers asking to share where we stayed, what activities we did, and any tips and insight regarding this trip, sooo here we go! Sharing a photo diary first, then will spill the details at the end of this post (…the pros and cons!). I hope y’all enjoy!!

10 Wedding Registry Ideas For Coffee Lovers

Happy Friday, friends! Last week I shared our amazing espresso maker on my Instagram Story and had SO many questions about it! It’s definitely the wedding gift of ours that gets the most use (…and the one we least expected to receive…it was quite the pleasant surprise, one of those “lets just add this and in our dreams maaaaybe someone will splurge on it…” and then it showed up on our doorstep and we both opened the box in awe and did a major happy dance, ha!). Thus, given my love for all things coffee (…and I know a lot of my readers are coffee folks, too), I’m am thrilled to partner with Macy’s and share my top 10 coffee accessories to add to your wedding registry (…or perhaps scoop up for yourself “just because” … 😉 ). From wonderful mugs that keep your drinks hot (a big pet peeve of mine when it comes to mugs), to coffee makers, espresso spoons and more – I’ve got you covered.

Weekly Chat: Conquering Your Fears

Professionally speaking, what’s your biggest fear? We all have that one thing that gives us major butterflies, sweaty palms and perhaps even makes us feel a little queasy. For me, it’s without a doubt public speaking. If you knew me 10 years ago, I was acting in every high school play and happily strolling up to the front of the class to speak to the room. These days, I find myself content to hide behind my computer screen. So, where did my outgoing self go? Between leaving the stage behind (now I much prefer to be in the audience) and working under a terrifying boss that scared me silly to speak up during my first job out of college (…story for another day…), I can pinpoint the source of the fear, but that doesn’t make it any easier to build myself back up and overcome it. However, when Create & Cultivate reached out months ago to speak on a panel about social media and blogging for SXSW, I knew this was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. It was time to work hard, conquer my fears and really regain my confidence back!

Weekly Chat: My Favorite Instagram Editing Apps

livvyland-weekly-chat-instagram-editing-apps-tips-photographyHello there! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are strolling into Monday feeling refreshed and motivated to take on the week! We are in the midst of a new site design rollout (eek, can’t wait to share this with y’all in the next few days – Blake has been hard at work creating something really magical!), thus the past few days were spent getting content re-tagged (I’m adding a few new categories to my new site) and all that good stuff. Stay tuned for the big reveal!

I love asking my readers what type of content they want to see from me, and one of my biggest requests lately has been to share my Instagram editing tools, tricks, “secrets,” etc. It makes me so happy that folks enjoy my Instagram posts and are interested in this topic! I am a sucker for iPhone photography and editing apps (they’re seriously sooooo fun for me), so let’s get to it!

Weekly Chat: 5 Friends Dish On Self-Love

self-love-clubHello gals, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! First off, I am sorry for my delay in getting my Weekly Chat post up and running this past week – traveling to San Fran and then Dallas last week threw off my usual blog routine…thus, I’m a week and a day late, but here we are!

My last Weekly Chat post was centered around practicing self-love, and mainly when it came to being kind to myself as I got my blog off the ground. I think it’s really important to treat ourselves with kindness during our “awkward phases” (…no one needs to see my first blog posts ha!), and it’s also vital that we keep these practices in motion as time goes on and those periods of growth come and go.

Which brings to me this weeks continuation post on self-love: how we put it into practice. As I write this, I am sipping a homemade latte (one of my happy places) and rocking a crazy topknot that is soaked in a yummy hair mask. I figured what better time to give myself a little lovin’ than while I write this piece?

When thinking of how I practice self-love/self-care, a few things came to mind:

Weekly Chat: Practicing Self-Love

livvyland-brave-bold-strong-self-love-weekly-chatThe other day, my sister and I were talking on the phone and she sent me a photo of my niece (Evy – pronounced “eh-vee,” she’s 4) with a hair mask on and little towel twisted on top of her head. (…AKA, the cutest thing you’ve ever seen!). Kimberlee (my sister) then continued to tell me that Evy immediately asked to see the photo and when she looked at it, asked her mom if she thought her face looked funny. Kimberlee said her heart sank when Evy showed that glimmer of self-consciousness, and truth be told, mine sank when she told me that, too. I then asked Kimberlee if she speaks in a loving way about her own appearance when she’s with Evy. The conversation definitely had us both thinking about how we can make improvements when it comes to practicing self-love (especially about our appearance – especially when someone else is listening). I think it’s one component of love we don’t emphasize enough.
