A few weeks back we took our first family trip to San Diego and it was so wonderful! As first time parents, Blake and I were of course nervous about the flight with Jude…but he did SO well! After touching down in SD, we dropped our stuff at our Airbnb, threw on our suits and headed straight for the beach!
Mom life = never leaving the house without packing for two these days! (…Which may appear like we’re going on a weekend getaway, buuut really we’re just running to the grocery store, ha). Combining the contents of my purse and a diaper bag into one means a backpack is simply the easiest way to go…it doesn’t hurt that they’re always in style, too! Herschel Supply Co. made an exclusive backpack for Urban Outfitters and it’s the perfect combination of effortlessly cool and practical. The color selection is awesome, too…this beige color goes with anything and it’s great because Blake and I can swap back and forth. I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom…! Right? 😉
A magical summer afternoon in Austin: a light breeze is blowing, the sound of a flowing stream brings instant calm and the warm sun kisses my skin. A dip in the water with nothing but trees on the horizon is oh-so-good for the soul – and this tired mama could use a dose of nature to revive and reset. I sit on a rock with the water rushing around me, my eyes lightly closed and for a moment I am completely present. Listening, breathing, listening, breathing. I make a promise to myself that I’ll do this more often…
If there’s one color that screams summer, it’s certainly that pretty peachy pink! It looks great on every skin tone, feels ultra feminine and can be paired with just about any other color (…and y’all know I love my cognac accessories…what a combo!). Peach just feels warm and inviting, it’s the perfect pop in a summer outfit. For my latest Trunk Club order, I wanted pieces that could take me from a sunny day around Austin to a warm weather getaway – and per usual, my stylist totally nailed it! Not going to lie, shopping these days can seem overwhelming when I’ve got a tight schedule (…my windows to shop at the mall are between naps and feedings…not to mention Jude normally sleeps ON me haha…doesn’t make trying on clothing in-store easy…or even possible, ha!). Between minimal time to myself and so many pieces to look at (shorts, tops, dresses, shoes, bags…where do I even begin when I’ve got 20 minutes?!), Trunk Club is the easiest and most enjoyable way for me to shop…
Last weekend Blake and I (…and Jude!) woke up early to enjoy a morning at the Farmer’s Market. We grabbed yummy local coffee (y’all…my mocha latte was $2.50! Unheard of in Austin, ha), scooped up some freshly picked wildflowers and chatted with the sweet vendors about their beautiful fruit and veggie assortments. It was such a lovely morning and made my heart super happy, as it felt like an “old Austin” type of outing. (Meaning, it didn’t feel “trendy” – it was genuinely pleasant). Jude quickly fell asleep in the front pack, so Blake and I had a mini morning date and got to reminisce about Austin and our childhoods in this city. The types of things we did with our parents as kiddos and weekend traditions we want to create with our own little family. We both love all the outdoorsy things Austin has to offer and fondly remember family days filled with local swimming holes, snow cone stands and mini festivals that popped up throughout the city. Walking around the farmer’s market together felt a lot like those special times!
Thank you Zappos for sponsoring this post! All opinions are my own.
Ohh how I’ve missed this place! Since having Jude (…and given that he still haaates the car), I haven’t been able to take the 20-minute drive to South Congress in months. Grabbing a leisurely coffee over here used to be my daily reality – and now it’s my daily daydream, ha! My mom watched Jude for an hour over the weekend, so Blake and I decided to spend that time grabbing coffee and strolling our favorite street. And even though I thought about Jude 90% of the time we were gone (…and literally ran up the stairs to see him when we got home, ha!), I felt refreshed and so happy to spend an hour with my hubby, holding hands and reminiscing about how much our lives have changed in just four months time. Taking time for myself is not something I do often these days, let alone allotting time for just me and Blake – but I’m learning it’s so necessary! A happier Olivia = a better mom, wife, daughter, friend…the list goes on and on. A little self-care goes a long way! read more
“We’re not a regular fam, we’re a Nike fam!” …But in all seriousness, Blake said he’d never be in a blog post with me unless it was for Nike…and low and behold HERE we are! Nike is a brand we admire greatly in our house – and it’s the only label Blake wears proudly (not even joking…it’s 100% Nike shirts, shoes and track shorts for this guy…he refuses to wear any other sports brand). Given that Jude is a mini Blake (…anyone else see the resemblance? Ha!), we’ve been collecting our fair share of Nike onesies, too. So stinkin’ adorable! …And I thought dressing myself was fun…nothing compares to dressing your baby! I mean, can we just take a minute for those precious baby sneakers? So. CUTE.
Life before Jude = leisurely hopping from a coffeehouse to a cute bar patio. Life after Jude = lucky if I make it to the Starbucks drive thru, ha! But in all seriousness, these days makeup is a rarity and if I put on real pants it’s a big deal. When people used to tell me about “mom style” I never thought twice about what that would mean once I became a mom myself. And now that I spend 24/7 caring for a three month old, I totally get what they mean! You’ve got to find pieces that make you feel good, are comfortable and practical. Now that I’m two sizes bigger since having a baby, I was in desperate need of an update and ready to invest in clothing that fits my new body. Did I mention the whole “it’s extremely difficult to leave the house” thing? Yeah…about that…my trips to the mall are few and far between these days (…and if I make it to the mall then I’m normally shopping for Jude and not myself). Which is where Trunk Club saves the day!
Ohh ya know, pregnancy just casually did a number on my body for nine months…and nine weeks postpartum, I am finally in a solid fitness routine to get my body back in shape! I realize I may never look like I used to pre-baby, but I am certainly ready to feel strong and build my endurance back up again. I put on 40lbs while pregnant with Jude and I’ve still got about 10lbs to shed to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (…and to fit into my old wardrobe haha! …Let’s be honest, that’s a major motivator right there…!). Our postpartum bodies are pretty fragile, so I’ve slowly been getting into my fitness rhythm – here’s what I’m doing (…and what I’m wearing, too!)…
Hey there, big cheesy grin! I’ve been feeling really good lately and I’m attributing those happy vibes to more time spent outside (…and exercise…wowza that really does do wonders!). We’ve had the strangest weather in Austin lately – one minute the sun is shining and the next there’s a torrential downpour. Funny enough, I intended to shoot this post during a rain sesh (…hence that adorable raincoat…) but once we parked it cleared up and the sun started beaming. No complaints here, though! Vitamin D does a body and mind good. You know the saying, “April showers bring May flowers” – so I am totally okay with all the rain if it means we’re looking at an extra lush and sunny May!
