Weekly Chat: We Bought A House!

Our big secret is finally out: we bought a house!!! Ah! We are all moved in and I can OFFICIALLY share the wonderful news!! We know the home buying process can get tricky, so I wanted to wait until it was 100% ours before I shared the news on my blog. We are beyond elated and so happy to be in the home of our dreams!

Thank you all for being patient with me over the last few weeks – this home buying thing takes a lot of time and it was pretty much consuming our lives for a minute there! Two days ago we had our final signing and got the keys…it was a pretty surreal day! After the meeting, Blake and I sat in his car in disbelief that this new chapter in our lives was about to start…it just felt too good to be true.

We’re looking forward to making wonderful memories, hosting our friends and family (hooray! enough space for visitors!), and one day – starting a family in this house. Oh, and of course, decorating – yay! 😉 Can’t wait to show y’all more of this beautiful space as it comes along!

Special thank you to our friends and family who have showered us with love during this special time, we are so grateful!

Psst… I know my readers are full of wonderful advice! If you have any tidbits or words of wisdom you’d like to share with a couple of first-time home buyers, please leave a comment below! XOXO

Ah! Thank you, Lara!! And major congratulations to you, too! It really is such an exciting time! (…And yes, totally agree – it’s such a state of limbo until the keys are in hand, ha!).

Wow, congratulations, that is SO exciting!!! So excited to see how you decorate your place, I know it’s going to be fab. My one piece of advice would be to take your time. I know it’s so tempting to get stuff so that you at least have something, but sometimes I find that I buy something “just for now until I find what I really want” but then I never replace it because it seems wasteful to get rid of something that isn’t broken. Does that even make sense, haha?! It’s always worth it to take the time to find what you really LOVE, even if it takes a few months. A home should take a while and lots of love to create.

Oh wow, LOVE your advice and reading your comment helped calm my “decoration anxiety” haha – so thank you…I was feeling quite overwhelmed this week with “oh, but we need this now! and this, too!” etc. ! I definitely agree…looks like I’ll be making some fun mood boards for rooms and enjoying pulling inspiration from Pinterest for a while, ha! (No complaints…pretty sure that’s my favorite “down time” activity these days haha). Thanks again for the words of wisdom!! XOXO

This is probably the best advice I’ve ever heard! Even when it comes to just an apartment! Don’t buy stuff just to have, buy pieces that you LOVE!

  • Lex says:

I think I just squealed with joy out loud at my office… I’m so excited for you! congratulations!

  • SO EXCITING! My husband & I are in the purchasing process right now!!! Congratulations!!

    • livvy says:

Ohh, that is so wonderful!!!! Sending positive juju your way through the process! That glass of champagne at the end is well deserved! 😉 Congrats on your new abode – cheers!! XO

  • Kelsey says:

Yay yay yay!!! Oh my gosh girlie, I’m so happy for you and Blake! You deserve this. Enjoy making it your home!!

  • Meghan says:

Congratulations! I would definitely echo the recommendation above about decoration anxiety. My husband and I bought a house in South Austin last summer and I have definitely learned a lot since then!

Pinterest – best friend but also worst enemy! It’s super exciting to get inspiration and ideas but if you’re like me and don’t see the immediate result, you’ll find yourself comparing your home to the Decor board and it can get a little disheartening but it’ll all come together in the end!

I was told by many and I’m glad I listened! To take one room at a time as to not get so overwhelmed. Once you’re finished, move on to the next room. This was such great advice I received so hopefully it helps you as well! We started with our living room as this was the central hub of the house and have since moved on to bedroom and next is kitchen!

Congrats again – can’t wait to see how you decorate!

Congratulation for your new home..!! This is the best advice for decorating the first home. And it’s important to decorate the home step by step.
